ROFL of the Day: Analogy FAIL

From a review of new compact sedans:

They have good performance and sip fuel as a hummingbird sips water.

Would you drive a car that burns two to five times its weight in fuel per day?

  1. I suppose that hummer teensiness invites this incorrect analogy. small = ‘cute’ = “sips”. If hummingbirds were as large as a crow, they’d be feared, especially by insects. The nectar flow on flowers would have to commesuarately increase though. Sticky gardening.
Makes one wonder about whether hummingbirds were larger when the earth’s atmosphere had more oxygen. Like those 2′ diameter dragonflies and towering mammoths and mastodons.
